Privacy policy

Colitis Foods (colitisfoods.com) is a personal, independent website run by Jude Horak. There are no user accounts, no logins, no newsletter, and nothing to buy. This page explains the small amount of data the site does handle and how you can limit it.

What we collect and why

Analytics

The site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages people read and which searches bring them here. Google Analytics sets cookies and records information such as the pages you visit, the approximate region you visit from, your device and browser type, and how you arrived. IP addresses are not stored by Google Analytics 4. We use this only in aggregate to decide which foods and guides to write next. You can block analytics with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or any content blocker.

Advertising

The site is funded by display advertising served through Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings or aboutads.info. We do not choose or see which ads you are shown, and we never sell supplements, diets, or medical products ourselves. Where an ad is clearly medical, treat it with the same skepticism you would anywhere else.

The "Can I eat this?" chat

Messages you type into the chat widget, and any food photo you choose to upload, are sent to our conversational AI provider to generate a reply. The reply is drawn from this site's own food database. Conversations are stored by that provider for a limited period so we can review whether the assistant is answering accurately. Please do not type your name, contact details, medical record numbers, or anything you would not put in a search engine. The chat is not a medical service and is not monitored in real time.

Email

If you email a correction or a question, we keep the email so we can reply and fix the page. We do not add you to any list and we do not share your address.

Server logs

Like every website, the hosting platform records standard request logs (IP address, page requested, time, browser) for security and to keep the site running. These are retained for a short period by the hosting provider and are not used to identify readers.

What we do not do

• We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information.
• We do not require an account, and we never ask for health records.
• We do not use affiliate links, sponsored food pages, or paid placements. If that ever changes, it will be labelled on the page.
• We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we will delete it.

Cookies

Cookies on this site come from Google Analytics and Google AdSense as described above. The site itself sets no cookies of its own. You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work, and the chat will still answer.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK, or California), you may have the right to ask what data we hold about you, to have it deleted, or to object to its use. Because we hold almost nothing beyond emails you have sent us, the practical answer is usually simple: email us and we will delete the thread. For data held by Google, use the Google links above.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top will change with it. Material changes (for example adding a newsletter) will be announced on the about page.
